“A beautiful hotel with a fun piano bar that the group turned into a karaoke space. The location requires public transportation, but the breakfast was a highlight and the staff were exceptionally friendly and courteous. Highly recommended for Rome visits.”

What our travelers say
The Building Hotel Rome earns its four-star billing with a consistency that is rare to find across so many different group visits. Tour directors and group leaders alike return with the same refrain: the breakfast is genuinely outstanding. We're talking about a spread served on a terrace with views across Rome — the kind of morning that sets a group's mood for the entire day. The lobby and common spaces are equally memorable, anchored by a live piano performance each evening that, on more than one occasion, has turned into an impromptu group karaoke session. That combination of an elegant social atmosphere and staff who are described, repeatedly and independently, as warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to large groups makes this property feel less like a stopover and more like a base camp worth coming back to.
The one thing worth setting expectations around is location. Via Montebello sits outside the immediate historic center, which means the Colosseum and Piazza Navona are not a short walk away. Most of our groups rely on the metro or a coach transfer to reach the main sights, and several tour directors note that the metro access is actually quite workable once the group gets its bearings. In summer, the hotel's pool shifts from a nice-to-have to a genuine asset — groups arriving after a long day of sightseeing in July heat have been notably grateful for it. Rooms are described as modern, spacious, and well-maintained, without the cramped feel that can plague older Roman properties in the same category.
This hotel is a strong fit for school and student groups of meaningful size — the property clearly has the infrastructure and staff experience to handle them smoothly. It works particularly well for programs spending several nights in Rome and wanting a comfortable, social home base rather than just a bed. Groups traveling in summer will especially appreciate the pool and the terrace breakfast. If your priority is stepping out the front door and being steps from the Forum, this may not be your match — but if you want a property where the group actually enjoys being at the hotel, The Building delivers that in full.
