What our travelers say
Hotel De Lanzi earns its reputation almost entirely on two things: where it sits and how it feels to move through Florence from its front door. Group leaders and tour directors who have brought students here are nearly unanimous — standing a block from the Duomo in the historic center means restroom breaks, regrouping moments, and spontaneous detours to nearby gelato shops all happen without burning itinerary time. For groups trying to make the most of a day or two in one of Europe's most walkable cities, that kind of positioning is genuinely hard to overstate. Several leaders noted that the surrounding streets feel authentically Florentine rather than tourist-adjacent, which adds something intangible to the overall experience. A few practical realities are worth knowing before you arrive. The hotel's 44 rooms are on the smaller side — comfortable, but not spacious — and the lift is compact, which is standard for a property of this age and style in central Florence. The lobby sits up a flight of stairs from street level, though luggage can be stored and sent up by elevator, and a secure courtyard room is available for group bags during check-in windows. Early check-in has come through for some groups but isn't guaranteed, so building flexibility into arrival plans is wise. Breakfast draws mixed reactions across visits — some leaders found it impressive for a three-star property, others felt the selection was thinner than expected — so it's fair to treat it as a solid bonus rather than a highlight. One tour director flagged a maintenance issue in a specific room, a reminder that occasional upkeep gaps can appear in older city-center hotels. There is also a smoking area near reception, which is worth noting for groups sensitive to that detail. Hotel De Lanzi is a strong fit for student and teacher groups that prioritize location and authentic character over amenity depth. It works particularly well for programs with packed sightseeing schedules, where the ability to walk to major landmarks within minutes outweighs the need for larger rooms or an elaborate breakfast spread. Groups comfortable with the rhythms of a classic European three-star — a bit of charm, a bit of quirk, and an address that does the heavy lifting — will find this a reliable and genuinely enjoyable Florence base.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2026
The location was walkable to everything, and the on-site mini market added great convenience. Early check-in was a welcome bonus. Breakfast had a smaller selection than comparable stops, but no complaints. Guests loved the authentic character of the property.
ExcellentTour Director· March 2026
The location next to the Duomo is unbeatable and allows groups to maximize time in the city. Rooms are on the smaller side, but the breakfast was good.
ExcellentTour Director· April 2026· YLU
Fantastic location. Breakfast could improve slightly, but overall a great experience.
ExcellentGroup Leader· May 2026· YGAS
The location could not have been more perfect, right in the heart of Florence. This made it easy to stop for restroom breaks and rest. The hotel was very clean and comfortable throughout.
ExcellentGroup Leader· April 2025· XDD
The lobby requires a flight of stairs, but all luggage could be stored inside and sent up by elevator. A locked courtyard room was also provided for luggage storage. The location was great, though breakfast was disappointing.
ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2025· XKS
The lift is small, though not unexpectedly so. The location is excellent and breakfast was great!
