What our travelers say
The Holiday Inn Express Canal de la Villette earns consistent praise from group leaders for reasons that matter when you're moving a team of students through Paris: a reliable breakfast, spacious-by-European-standards rooms, and a location that actually works. The breakfast buffet draws attention in nearly every account — fresh, plentiful, and varied enough to fuel a full day of sightseeing. On one early-departure morning, the kitchen staff prepared individual brown bag breakfasts rather than leave the group without fuel before the buffet opened, which says something about how the team operates. Fast WiFi, daily housekeeping, and a smooth check-in process round out the practical side. One group leader noted that the hotel tracked down lost luggage by coordinating directly with the airline — a small detail that speaks volumes about the staff's willingness to go beyond the front desk script. The 19th arrondissement setting along the Canal de la Seine puts the hotel a step outside the typical tourist circuit, which turns out to be an asset. The neighborhood has a genuine local feel — markets, bakeries, and shops within walking distance — and the nearby metro makes it straightforward to reach central Paris for the day's program. Some rooms face the canal, which group leaders describe as a genuine bonus. The area has active street life, including nearby bars, but multiple accounts note this never crossed into disruptive territory for student groups. A couple of practical things worth knowing: complimentary toiletries are limited (lotion and conditioner are not standard), and a few leaders mentioned wishing breakfast started a bit earlier on busy departure days. This hotel is a strong fit for student and teacher groups who want comfortable, well-managed accommodation without being dropped into the thick of the tourist crowds near the major landmarks. Groups that need reliable logistics — consistent breakfast, metro access, responsive staff — will find it delivers on all three. It works equally well for larger school programs and smaller teacher-led trips, and the room sizing makes it less of a squeeze than many Paris options in the same category.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2025· LBFS
A great hotel with good breakfasts. On an early departure day, the staff provided brown bag breakfasts since the buffet wasn't yet open. The hotel is clean, safe, and offers super fast WiFi.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2025· LBFS
The location is lively due to nearby bars but not disruptively so. Situated away from tourist crowds, it offers easy metro access and plenty of nearby markets, bakeries, and shops. Rooms are comfortable and breakfast has plenty of options.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2025· PTFR
The location is ideal, with easy access to the metro, laundry, and nearby restaurants. The staff are kind and accommodating, and breakfasts are fresh and plentiful. Would strongly choose to stay here again!
ExcellentGroup Leader· April 2025· PAMP
Ideally located with spacious rooms by European standards, daily housekeeping, and an impressive breakfast. The students thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2024· LBFS
Breakfast was great, though an earlier start time would be welcome. Rooms are clean and spacious, with some offering lovely canal views. Note that complimentary lotion and conditioner are not provided, which appears to be a local cultural norm rather than an oversight.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2024· PABS
Rooms were decently sized for a European hotel. The shower door design was a bit unusual but functioned without leakage. Staff were courteous and professional, and breakfast was tasty.
