What our travelers say
Hotel Lancelot earns its reputation on two pillars: location and staff. The Colosseum sits close enough that it's visible from the hotel, and group leaders consistently describe the surrounding neighborhood as a genuine asset — restaurants, gelato shops, and a small market are all within easy reach, and the walk to the Colosseum itself takes just a few minutes. Tour directors also note that the lobby and common spaces handle the logistics of group travel gracefully, with smooth check-in and check-out processes and enough open space for briefings or evening journaling. The staff draws praise across nearly every evaluation — they're described as welcoming, accommodating, and genuinely prepared for the rhythms of student and teacher groups. Breakfast deserves an honest look. The spread reliably includes pastries, fruit, breads, and hot milk, and several tour directors noted that the protein options — including a hearty departure breakfast box — exceed the bare-minimum continental standard you might encounter elsewhere in Italy. That said, hot egg or meat dishes aren't part of the rotation, and a couple of evaluators felt the overall quality of ingredients fell slightly short of what Italy's culinary reputation might lead you to expect. Rooms are clean and comfortable with strong showers, though triple configurations can feel compact. A few minor plumbing and door-latch quirks have been flagged, and groups arriving by motorcoach should know that bus access to the immediate vicinity is limited, which is worth planning around. One notable incident — an extended power outage that disrupted elevator access and affected refrigerated medications — is worth flagging for any group traveling with medical needs that require consistent power or temperature control. For most school and student groups, though, Hotel Lancelot is a confident choice: a three-star property that punches above its category in character and convenience, with a classical Italian atmosphere that feels like the right backdrop for a Rome itinerary. It works especially well for groups prioritizing walkability to the ancient sites and a staff that's genuinely oriented toward looking after travelers.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentTour Director· April 2026· CLAP
Just 5 minutes from the Colosseum chaos, this hotel offers a wonderful island of peace. Briefing the group on the hotel's style pays off—guests consistently respond well to it. Breakfast variety is slightly limited, and some triple rooms may feel small.
ExcellentTour Director· April 2026· ROHR
Well organised with a great location, prepared staff, and a good breakfast.
ExcellentTour Director· March 2026· XMC
Unsurpassed location with comfortable, clean rooms and hot, powerful showers. Breakfast exceeded the usual Italian standard. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our stay.
ExcellentGroup Leader· April 2026· YJB
Great location with a very smooth check-in and check-out process. The staff were wonderful throughout our stay.
ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2026· YMH
The lobby was ideal for group check-ins and journaling. Breakfast offered great protein options plus breads and pastries, and the departure breakfast box was hearty. Staff were welcoming, and the location is unbeatable—the Colosseum is visible from the hotel, with restaurants, gelato, and a market steps away.
ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2026· CLAD
A charming, quintessentially European property with friendly staff, clean rooms, soft towels, and generous bath amenities. Breakfast shines with pastries, fruit, and hot milk, though lacks hot egg or meat options. Great gathering spaces. Minor plumbing and door-latch issues noted; bus access is limited.
