What our travelers say
Perched on a hillside above the Loire Valley, the Novotel Amboise earns consistent praise from our group leaders and tour directors for its cleanliness, comfort, and the kind of outdoor amenities that genuinely energize student groups after long days of sightseeing. The breakfast draws particular attention — described as generous and well-organized, with ample space to seat a full group — and the rooms are repeatedly noted as clean, modern, and restful. The elevated position also delivers a payoff: several group leaders have pointed out that the Château d'Amboise is visible right from the windows, making the setting feel like part of the experience rather than just a place to sleep. The amenities here go beyond the usual hotel checklist. A pool, tennis courts, mini golf, and basketball keep students occupied and happy during downtime, and these features come up again and again as genuine highlights rather than afterthoughts. That said, there are a few things worth knowing before you arrive. The hotel sits outside the walkable center of Amboise, so evenings tend to be spent on-site rather than wandering into town — which works well for groups who benefit from a contained environment, but less so for those hoping to explore independently after dinner. Pool hours have been noted as earlier than some groups would like. On the facilities side, basement-level rooms don't include in-room fridges, and groups should be aware that breakfast for touring groups is served in a separate room with a slightly smaller selection than the main restaurant. Housekeeping has been flagged once or twice — an unready room, an occasional insect sighting — though the front desk has responded promptly in each case. The Novotel Amboise is a strong fit for student and school groups touring the Loire Valley châteaux circuit, particularly those who benefit from a self-contained property where energy can be channeled into supervised on-site activities. The combination of reliable comfort, a standout location above the valley, and staff who have proven capable even during unexpected situations makes this a dependable base for groups of most sizes.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2026· LBV
A bit outside the city center, but the property was clean with smooth check-in and a good breakfast. A few students did report spotting centipedes in their rooms.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2026· COTP
The sports courts were a huge hit with students, the breakfast was fantastic, and the beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable.
ExcellentGroup Leader· June 2026· LBFP
Not walkable to town, but the amenities made up for it: mini golf, pickleball, tennis, basketball, and a pool. The outdoor evening views were amazing. A room had leftover dirty towels and a cup, but front desk resolved it immediately.
ExcellentTour Director· June 2026· COTP
A great hotel, though it is far from the city center on foot. Once settled in, the group tends to stay on-site rather than venture out.
ExcellentTour Director· June 2026· LBFS
The reception team was highly efficient and especially supportive during a health emergency. Breakfast is served in a separate room with a slightly reduced selection compared to the main restaurant, but overall the experience was excellent.
ExcellentGroup Leader· April 2025· LBV
The view was incredible and the rooms were very nice and clean. The group was eager to enjoy activities like the pool, but the early closing times were a disappointment.
