What our travelers say
The Hotel d'Angleterre has a particular kind of old-world character that group leaders and tour directors consistently appreciate — real metal keys with hefty tags, balcony views over Place Victor Hugo, and a building that feels like it belongs to Grenoble rather than a generic hospitality chain. It's the sort of hotel that earns its personality through age rather than renovation, and our travelers have responded warmly to that. The central location on one of the city's main squares is a practical asset too: groups find it easy to orient themselves and move around the city independently, which matters when you're managing a dozen teenagers or a full school cohort. Breakfast is a genuine highlight, with one tour director singling it out as among the best they've encountered on program — specifically because it leans into locally sourced products rather than the standard continental spread. That said, the breakfast room setup can feel a bit disorganized when a full group descends at once, so it's worth setting expectations around timing and flow. Rooms are on the simpler side, and during warmer spring or early summer visits, the lack of air conditioning can make things uncomfortable — though travelers note this is a function of the building's age rather than any neglect on the hotel's part. A quick note in pre-trip documents reminding students to leave their room keys at the front desk when heading out goes a long way toward avoiding unnecessary hassle with the front desk staff. This hotel is well suited to groups that are in Grenoble for a night or two as part of a broader itinerary — it's not a place to linger over extended stays, but as a characterful, centrally located base for exploring the city, it delivers reliably. Smaller groups or those traveling in cooler months will get the most out of it. For a program that values a sense of place over polished amenities, the Hotel d'Angleterre is a solid and honest choice.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2024· NAPP
Older and rustic in character, with charming real keys and lovely balcony views. Full of personality and a great choice overall.
ExcellentTour Director· March 2024· NAPP
Wonderfully welcoming and ideally located. The breakfast stood out for featuring only local products — truly one of the best around.
ExcellentTour Director· March 2023· YCE
An older hotel full of charm. Breakfast was good, though the layout of the breakfast room felt a bit chaotic.
ExcellentGroup Leader· March 2023· YCE
Guests should be reminded in travel documents to leave metal room keys at the front desk when going out—the keys have a hefty tag. The hotel's city location is excellent and very easy for guests to navigate independently.
GoodGroup Leader· April 2026· NAPP
A solid hotel for a one-night stay. Rooms were simple and very warm due to the heat and no available AC at the time, though this was outside the hotel's control. Overall a good experience.
GoodTour Director· April 2025· NAPP
Not quite as impressive as comparable options, but still a solid choice overall.
