What our travelers say
Hotel Tiergarten has built a quietly devoted following among Passports groups over the years, and it's not hard to see why. Sitting on Alt-Moabit in the Moabit district, the property occupies a handsome 19th-century building that gives it a character you simply don't find in a chain hotel — group leaders have called it one of the most atmospheric stops on an entire trip. The Turmstrasse U-Bahn station is right on the doorstep, putting the Berlin Zoo area and the western city center just two stops away, which means early morning departures and late returns are genuinely manageable without anyone needing to navigate complicated transfers.
Two things come up again and again in feedback from our tour directors and group leaders: the breakfast and the staff. The morning spread earns consistent, unprompted praise across multiple years and programs — this isn't a grab-a-croissant-and-go setup, but a proper start to a full day of sightseeing. The staff draw equally warm remarks; groups have noted a willingness to accommodate room-change requests and a general sense that the team is paying attention. The dining area in particular has an easy, welcoming atmosphere that makes it a natural gathering spot for groups to regroup before heading out. One practical note worth knowing: Wi-Fi access has historically been complimentary for group leaders, while students have paid separately for connectivity — worth flagging to participants ahead of arrival.
With 60 rooms across three floors, Hotel Tiergarten is well-suited to mid-sized school and student groups that want a sense of place rather than a generic urban hotel box. The location skews slightly west of central Berlin, so groups with itineraries heavily weighted toward the eastern historic sites will want to factor in a few extra metro minutes — but for most programs, the trade-off is more than worth it for the combination of character, convenience, and genuinely attentive hospitality that groups find here.
