What our travelers say
The Grand Hotel Europe earns its reputation in Lucerne on the strength of practical fundamentals done well. Group leaders point to the breakfast as a genuine highlight — the kind of spread that gets a student group fueled and out the door without complaint. Check-in runs smoothly, the staff are friendly and accustomed to groups, and the rooms are notably spacious with a retro character that gives them more personality than your average tour hotel. With ample elevators and enough room to breathe, the property handles the logistical reality of moving a large group through a building without the usual bottlenecks. The hotel sits along the lakeshore on Haldenstrasse, which means it is not within walking distance of Lucerne's old town — something worth setting expectations around before arrival. That said, the property hands out free public transport cards, and two bus lines running directly outside the front door reach Schwanenplatz in around ten minutes. Tour directors who have worked with groups here note that this setup actually becomes an asset: for many students, hopping on a Swiss public bus for the first time is its own small adventure, and the ride gives the group a taste of how locals move around the city. The Grand Hotel Europe is a strong fit for medium to large school groups that want comfortable, well-sized rooms in a four-star setting without paying the premium of a city-center address. The public transport connection keeps the itinerary flexible, and the overall ease of operations — from check-in to breakfast to getting across town — makes life straightforward for the group leaders and tour directors managing the logistics on the ground.

What group leaders & tour directors say

ExcellentGroup Leader· October 2024· XKJ
A great location with nice rooms and an excellent breakfast. Check-in was easy. Taking a public bus back from dinner one evening was a highlight for the group, as many students had never ridden a large public bus before.

Not walking distance to Lucerne centre, but free public transport cards and frequent buses reach Schwanenplatz in 10 minutes. Private coaches can drop off and pick up on-site. Rooms are spacious with a retro style, elevators are adequate, and staff are very friendly. Breakfast and dinner are decent.
