What our travelers say
The Ibis Styles on St Andrew Square has earned a consistent track record with Passports groups, and the praise that comes back from group leaders and tour directors touches the same notes time and again: genuinely friendly staff, spotless rooms, and a breakfast that does exactly what it needs to do. The team here seems to understand group travel — luggage was stored without fuss for an early-arriving group, drinks were offered in the lobby when check-in ran a little behind schedule, and the general atmosphere is described as welcoming rather than transactional. That kind of operational ease matters when you're herding a dozen tired students through a door at the end of a long travel day. A few things are worth setting expectations around. The rooms are compact — comfortable and well-appointed, but not sprawling, so groups that prioritize space may notice the squeeze. Breakfast is a solid continental spread: pastries, fruit, oatmeal, and the like. It fuels a full day of sightseeing without any trouble, but those hoping for a full cooked Scottish breakfast won't find it here. The property sits just off a busy street, which sounds like it might mean noise, but group leaders have noted that rooms stay quiet — a genuine plus when early mornings are on the itinerary. It is also worth knowing that the hotel is a bit of a walk from some of Edinburgh's central attractions, though none of our travelers felt that distance was a dealbreaker. This property works particularly well for school and student groups that value cleanliness, reliable service, and a central-enough base without the premium price tag of something closer to the Royal Mile. It has shown up as a first-night hotel on multi-city itineraries and repeatedly earned the distinction of being a group's favorite stop on the trip — a meaningful endorsement when it's competing against properties in destinations that tend to get more of the glory.

By far the best hotel on the trip. Very clean with great meals and wonderful service. The location felt safe and welcoming. Check-in was briefly delayed, but the group relaxed comfortably in the lobby. A wonderful first-night stay!

This was our favorite hotel of the trip. The food was delicious and the staff were kind. It is a bit farther from the main attractions than other options, but the experience is absolutely worth it.

A very nice hotel in an excellent location. Rooms were immaculate and the property was extremely clean throughout. Breakfast was a straightforward continental spread — nothing fancy, but perfectly suited to the group's needs.

Ideally located just off a busy street, keeping it quiet at night. Rooms were clean and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast was continental with pastries, fruit, and hot oatmeal. The team kindly held our bags upon early arrival.
