Japan's Resilient Heart
Japan's Resilient Heart is a tour built around a question most student itineraries never ask: what does a country look like when it rebuilds? Over eight days, your group moves from the controlled intensity of Tokyo into two cities whose recent histories have fundamentally shaped modern Japan — Kesennuma, a coastal fishing city devastated by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and Fukushima, whose name became shorthand worldwide for nuclear crisis that same year. The through-line here is resilience, and by Day 5 in Kesennuma, students begin to understand that word not as an abstraction but as something visible in a rebuilt harbor, a repurposed school, a fishing industry working its way back.
