Step Right: Why Great Walking Shoes are a Travel Must-Have

This is probably one of the most important travel packing tips that we can give. Traveling often means miles on foot - strolling along beaches, hiking up trails, or navigating city streets. Comfortable, well-fitted shoes can make the difference between enjoying your trip or spending days nursing sore feet.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that some tour groups can end up walking 25k+ steps in a single day.

Choose shoes that have been tried, tested, and broken in. New shoes are fun, but they are a lot less fun on day 2 when you realize they may be a bit snug. We cannot emphasize breaking in your sneakers enough. Wear them for days prior to departure - go on walks in them and live your normal, daily life in them. Blisters from new shoes can be extremely painful and can significantly impact your trip. Avoid shoes that pinch or rub, and aim for a comfortable fit that offers support and cushioning.

Remember that weather-appropriate footwear is essential. Waterproof shoes are a boon in rainy climates, while breathable material is best for hotter locations. A sturdy, non-slip sole can prevent accidental falls on wet or uneven surfaces. We strongly urge you to reconsider packing flip flops, heels, or even slides.

When in doubt, take a leaf from the Europeans' book - favor comfort over style, choose quality materials, and you're sure to have a memorable travel experience without the foot pain.
