London Theatre Trip suggestions

I am taking a group on the London Theatre trip next month and would love some tips and suggestions from some of you seasoned veterans. Should the kids have any pounds on them before they leave the US? What is the best way to deal with currency? Has anyone day tripped to Canterbury or to Brighton? Was that possible or a pain?
We are only a group of 16 so we are being put with another
group. Should I contact that teacher and agree on rules ahead of time? Should I bother contacting that teacher at all? What do you do?
Anyone taken the Jack the Ripper tour? Fun or goofy?
