This program presents a rare opportunity to live and breathe in the beauty of Thailand well beyond what is presented to tourists who visit this fascinating kingdom. You will participate in the daily life of Thai people and help solve many of the problems they have identified as being impediments to their achieving modernity that does not come at the expense of their cherished Buddhist heritage. You will find yourself in a most unique environment, possibly interpreting English songs for Buddhist monks on one day and cooking Pad Thai with your Thai family the next. Your proximity to Bangkok (less than 1 hour by bus) and the surrounding treasures in Thailand's ancient capital, Ayuthaya, provide a wealth of opportunity for meaningful cultural exploration during your free time.

Travel Overview

DAYS 1-2: Depart US on trans-Pacific flight to Bangkok, Arrival and Transfer to Program Site Outside City, Orientation Briefing, Team Building Exercise
DAY 3: Introduction to the Monks, Cultural Scavenger Hunt, Thai Cooking Lessons, Plan Work Projects
DAY 4: Begin Work Project, English Lessons with Monks
DAY 5: Thai Language Lessons, Continue Work Project, Computer Instruction, Sawyer Water Filter Installations
DAY 6: Continue Work Project: Building Maintenance, Cooking and Language Lessons
DAY 7: Floating Markets Excursion, Continue Work Project, English Lessons, Cooking Lessons
